Reasons behind the Death Caused Due To Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma is caused to the people who are exposed to asbestos. Mineral named vermiculite is the source of asbestos. People working at mines, factories, insulation manufacturing sites, railroad working sites, and ship building sites come in the contact with asbestos fibers and dust. Asbestos is commonly used at these sites because of its longevity and fire-resistant properties.

Mesothelioma is incurable yet and asbestos also can be called the silent killer because it does not come into notice in its initial stages. Recently a study was made over Mesothelioma Death Rate and the results came into light were that the mortality rate associated with Mesothelioma and lung cancer of the people working there was greater than the general people.

The study was made on 4702 civilian workers including men and women who were employed at shipyard between January 1950 and December 1964 and then the number of deaths and their causes were examined. The study was conducted by S Krstev, J Rusiecki, P Stewart, and A. Blair and it was published in Occupational and Environmental Medicine. The original publication can be seen at http://oem.bmj.com/cgi/content/abstract/64/10/651.

People exposed to asbestos come to know that they have Mesothelioma after 20 years approx. The symptoms of Mesothelioma include weight loss and abdominal pain moreover, it is difficult to diagnose because the symptoms are similar to other respiratory diseases. Family members of the people who have Mesothelioma also get this disease. Since this disease is incurable only prevention is the way to escape. People who are likely to come into contact with asbestos should use some protective equipment.
